Tower of London and Tower Bridge

Up early this morning...the carpet smells from the huge spillage.  Up to reception to get our room changed again, easy, up two floors, nice sized room, hopefully this will be the last change for the week!!
To the Tower of London today, got the Underground up there, it is on the other side of the city centre so it's a fair walk and we don't want to wear ourselves out too early in the day.  Went in to the Tower, this is where the Crown Jewels are kept, unfortunately they seem to be fairly well guarded so we couldn’t bring home as sample.  The display is interesting – you go through the ticket office and stand on a travelator which goes very slowly around the display.  This of course means you get to see it all very clearly and you haven’t got people standing in front of particular items without letting other in to have a look.  Great idea and if you want another look you just get on again and go around.  Takes about 20 minutes.  They have crowns and all types of jewels dating back hundreds of years with good information about each piece...no photos though.
The rest of the tower is very well signposted and there are information stations all over the place.  It has a very gruesome history and is not for the faint hearted.  Spent a couple of hours there, ended up having an early lunch at the cafe.
The Tower Bridge is right beside the Tower of London and is probably one of the most familiar bridge in the world.  We decided to do the tour and walked up the towers on one side, along the top and down the tower on the other side.  There was a video display of the construction (built in the late 1800s) and displays of old steam engines which were used to raise the middle sections.  Once again we left full of knowledge.
Decided to walk back along the Thames River.  Beautiful weather today so enjoyed the walk, past the Globe Theatre, wanted to go in but there was a performance about to start so they had no tours today.  Crossed the Millennium Bridge and made it home through central London and went to the Laundromat around the corner and had an afternoon drink in the pub across the road.
