Day in Nice

Sleep in this morning, got up, breakfast, then went and did our laundry, got back to the motel about 10am and headed towards the Mediterranean. Walked along the port wall out to the lighthouse then around the headland towards the beach. Climbed lots of stairs up to the lookout to get 92 metres above sea level to see the Waterfall Gardens, great views of the beach and port. Bought Elliott a bib.

One thing we have noticed in France, men will urinate anywhere!!! Up at the lookout the wall about 50 metres behind the lookout fence men would just walk up to it and pee....smelt disgusting!!!! Down the stairs and to the beach. Just a bit disappointed!!! No sand in sight – all rocks, very hard on the feet. Put our feet in the Mediterranean the went towards the Town Square. Big markets in town, wandered around, had sandwich and quiche for lunch, bought Harley and William a Monaco t-shirt. Of course we went for a gelati – best ever – coconut and coffee...yum!!! I seem to have spilt a fair bit down my white shirt – had to buy another shirt. Magical day with beautiful weather, back to the motel about 5pm.

Had to be on the bus a 6pm tonight to go in to Monte Carlo. Climbed very high through the mountains along the coastline, very steep down to the waters edge, able to see plenty of very expensive mansions along the coast. Stopped along the way for tea – duck pate/vol au vont, coq au vin, roast turkey, crème caramel for dessert. Back on the bus to Monte Carlo. The Grand Prix is on in three days time so the streets were starting to close and the barriers were getting built along the road. Drove most of the circuit from the starting grid, very exciting seeing places only previously seen on TV.

We were dropped off at the casino, had a drink and lost 15 euro in the Little Casino. We would have had to pay 10 euro to get into the Big casino, we would also have to be wearing a tie and produce our passports. Didn’t go in, just walked around, mostly looking at all the expensive cars cruising slowly around or parked near the centre of town. Lots of opulence around here!!! Home late, we have a early morning tomorrow so straight to bed.
